In the future, cloud computing will have a new format, mainly influenced by form and form. Today's public cloud has great limitations, but in reality most companies are using hybrid cloud. So some people speculate that the future of computing will be the hybrid cloud will dominate.
There is no doubt that the future of cloud computing will be controversial. In fact, the word “cloud†is appropriate because, like the clouds in the sky, cloud computing technology is constantly changing and will reshape its shape. And enterprise demand leads the trend and trend of cloud technology, because enterprises know what it means to use cloud computing for market competition.
A study released by research firm IDG Research Services earlier this year showed that nearly 40% of organizations use a public cloud, but some organizations have moved some of their workload back to their on-premises data centers, mainly because Safety and cost considerations.
The trend that is emerging today is that companies need to be more cautious in taking action. They realize that sometimes businesses are more difficult to run in the cloud, and they are more sensible about moving their business to cloud computing.
But they are still moving to the cloud, and the cloud-first enterprise strategy is significantly enhanced. HypsRamp, a hybrid cloud IT operations management provider, conducted a survey of IT leaders in large enterprises (more than 500 employees) and found that public cloud services accounted for a larger share of IT budgets.
More than half of the respondents said they have used the public cloud for more than three years, but only 29% of respondents described their cloud adoption level as “mature,†while “development†was 50% and “emerging†was 21%. Therefore, there is still room for growth and will continue to grow.
The future of cloud computing is influenced by form and formOne question asked is what kind of future form will cloud computing take? The survey found that three-quarters of respondents said they want to work with different cloud computing providers to meet their business needs. For this reason, a new term appears with the application of public, private, and hybrid clouds: cloudy.
Cloudy has two ways of using it: one way is to define two or three cloud types together, such as a public cloud and a private cloud in tandem. Of course, this is a hybrid cloud. Another way to use cloudy is to use cloud services from multiple cloud providers. A company may work with Amazon, Microsoft, and a smaller vendor, perhaps for storage purposes.
TIm Crawford, principal consultant for data center and cloud computing at Avoa, a CIO strategy consultancy, said that people need a variety of different services to meet a variety of different mechanisms, so by default, a hybrid cloud or cloudy approach is decided. .
"There is no type of cloud computing that can satisfy all of the user's needs. The reality is that people will have to use a combination of them. Most companies are adopting it," Crawford said. "And this momentum is growing. Some people argue that such a result may all use public clouds, but I don't think so, because in some applications, public clouds are not a viable solution for businesses."
Steve Tack, senior vice president of products for cloud computing application performance monitoring provider Dynatrace, said that the consensus with large enterprises and ISV customers is that the adoption of hybrid cloud will be the direction of enterprise development, "whether people call it a hybrid cloud or cloudy, No matter what it might be."
There are two drivers for companies moving their business to cloud computing, he said, and people are concerned about the density of containers and microservices architectures and the speed of time to market. There are many benefits to adopting a microservice approach, such as deployment speed and component decoupling to make them easier to deploy and update.
But he also mentioned moving from a waterfall-style approach to a more agile continuous integration/delivery approach. He saw the company release a major version every six months or every two months. They achieved a fast update speed through a series of combinations. Companies that automate testing and performance analysis enable developers to focus on real-world development. Automation also provides visibility and insight into usage and customer experience.
"By getting feedback loops and adopting a continuous deployment approach, companies can extend the lifecycle of their applications and accelerate deployment," Tack said. "When companies combine cloud native applications, containers, automation, agility and DevOps, they can Get the composite value of this combination."
Limitations of the public cloudTack said that most of the new cloud investments are driven by demand for new investments and new initiatives, but he also sees an increase in the number of applications that are known as "boost and transfer" data centers.
“The former is based on competitive advantage and the latter is based on cost. Both approaches are attractive to companies,†he said.
However, promotion and conversion may not be a good idea. Several studies have found that companies migrate their applications to the cloud and quickly move back to the on-premises data center. Crawford said, “This is not because the cost of adopting a public cloud is more expensive, but that these applications are more expensive to use. It may be four times more expensive than running in a traditional data center. This is because traditional data center applications ( Assume no rewriting or redesign) is used to run around the peak of the redundant architecture. Public clouds are not designed to run these applications, and if the company uses its design more appropriately, its cost may be lower." Say.
So why do companies make this mistake? Because many companies don't know about this. “Many companies are unable to determine whether their costs are high, and many analysts are offering their own recommendations,†he said.
Therefore, migrating data center applications to the cloud will not be a major trend in the future as they have their own way of doing things. Crawford also believes that network latency may also affect the adoption of public clouds, and that enterprises may adopt on-premise/private clouds such as the Internet of Things and edge services. “Because network connectivity is still a limiting factor,†he said.
New future cloud computing format?Neither Task nor Crawford predicted the new format that appeared in cloud computing because it was not needed.
"Most companies in the real world are using hybrid clouds," Crawford said. "Enterprise data centers are using SaaS running on some form of public cloud, and people can tell if it's really hybrid."
Task said that today, there are also some people who speculate on serverless computing through the public cloud. "Serverless" computing is a bit of a misnomer, but it still requires a server to run. This is just to allocate virtual machines or containers and deploy code to them. The development team just uploads its application, which is called functionality because it performs a single function, and then the vendor (AWS or other) performs this function and Close it when the process is complete.
It solves one of the biggest problems in cloud computing: people often forget to turn off virtual machines when they are done. Developers and other users forget to close their virtual instances, keep them running, and if the virtual machine is running, its plan is running. That's why companies are shocked when they see cloud bills.
With serverless computing, businesses never start a virtual machine, so there's no need to worry about shutting it down. It creates an instance to execute the code, a simple single-function application that closes when it's done.
"It allows people to design, build, and run applications and services, abstracting them from processing hardware and management servers, and they only need to spend time on a subtle basis," Task said.
“I still think there is a lot of space for large-scale migrations and containers in the market, and the company will have a lot of interest in serverless computing, which will have a huge impact on the overall structure,†he added.
