ADI Introduces Industry's Smallest MEMS Microphone for Hearing Aid Design

21ic Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) has introduced the ADMP801, a high-performance MEMS microphone developed specifically for hearing aid applications. Compared to traditional solutions such as electret condenser microphones (ECMs), the ADMP801 is not only smaller in size (7.3 cubic millimeters), but also more stable and does not change with time, temperature and environmental changes. Its equivalent input noise (EIN) is as low as 27 dBA SPL (sound pressure level), and its power consumption is only 17 μA at 1 V, which is a fraction of the power consumption of traditional ECM. The ADMP801 MEMS microphone is available in a small surface mount package measuring only 3.35 mm x 2.50 mm x 0.98 mm and is compatible with reflow soldering processes without compromising sensitivity.

ADI Introduces Industry's Smallest MEMS Microphone for Hearing Aid Design

Pat O'Doherty, vice president of healthcare at Analog Devices, said: "The hearing aid application is a field where MEMS microphones can be used because of its small size, high stability and very low power consumption. However, the EIN performance of previous MEMS microphones. Unable to meet stringent hearing aid standards. The noise performance, package size, phase and gain stability of the ADMP801 MEMS microphone fully meets the requirements of advanced hearing aid applications and integrates beamforming technology to help locate the sound source."

More about the ADMP801 Omnidirectional MEMS Microphone

The ADMP801 is a high quality, ultra low power, analog output, bottom-receiving omnidirectional MEMS microphone designed for hearing aid applications. It is fully compatible with the patch and reflow process, allowing the use of a mechanized assembly process to save cost; in contrast, ECM requires a manual assembly process. The device's excellent environmental and time stability allows multiple ADMP801 MEMS microphones to be configured as an array to create a directional response that helps locate the sound source.

Main features of ADMP801 omnidirectional MEMS microphone:

· Microphone EIN: 27 dBA SPL

· Power consumption: 17 μA (1 V)

· Stable response, does not change with time and temperature

· Package size: 7.3 cubic millimeters
