Willan City, Canada will complete the overall renovation of LED street lights in 2012

The first phase of the project included the replacement of 4,300 Cobra Head High Pressure Sodium (HPS) street lights, and the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by April 2012. The second stage will be the replacement of 2410盏 decorative lamps. The entire project was completed in December 2012. By then, Welland will become the first city in North America to complete the overall renovation of urban LED street lights.

The City of Welland estimates that the use of LED street lighting systems is expected to save a total of $6.8 million in operating expenses. After paying all the renovation costs, including repayment of debt, the city will benefit a net profit of $2.38 million from a 15-year long-term agreement. In addition, the city's annual carbon emissions will be reduced from 2.1 million kilograms to 541,000 kilograms.
