Dow Chemical plans to increase LED material production

According to foreign media reports, Dow Chemical Company (DOW) announced on Tuesday that it will increase the production of materials for LED lighting equipment.

According to Dow Chemical, the market demand for TrimethylGallium is increasing dramatically.

TrimethylGallium is an organometallic chemical vapor deposition precursor material widely used in LED and other compound semiconductor devices. Dow Chemical said it will increase TrimethylGallium's production by increasing production capacity in its US plants and building a new plant in South Korea.

LEDs can be used to replace incandescent and fluorescent tubes for more energy savings. Dow Chemical, a new plant in Cheonan, south of Seoul, South Korea, will be operational early next year. By then, combined with the increase in production at the US plant, Dow Chemical's TrimethylGallium production will increase to 60 metric tons per year.

Dow Electronic Materials, a division of Dow Chemical's Advanced Materials Division, said it will further expand its Korean plant to produce other organometallic materials in the future.
