Intel 7-series chipsets formally passed USB 3.0 official certification

The USB-IF organization issued a press release today and announced that the Intel Panther Point 7 series and C216 chipsets have passed the certification of its SuperSpeed ​​USB standard specification (ie, USB 3.0). This will be Intel's first product to natively support the USB 3.0 interface. It is also the second paragraph following AMD A75/A70M.

In fact, Intel's main control is almost the last to get the official certification of USB 3.0.

The 7 series chipsets for the desktop Ivy Bridge processor and the C216 chipset with the next generation Xeon server processor will natively integrate up to four USB 3.0 interfaces. Unless there are more special requirements, motherboard manufacturers can provide USB 3.0 without using any third-party control chips, which can save costs and ensure better compatibility.

The Intel chipset native support for USB 3.0 has been reported since early this year. According to the latest official roadmap, Z77, Z75, H77, Q77, Q75, B75, HM77, HM76, UM77, QM77, QS77 and other next-generation chipset will provide four USB 3.0, only HM75 a model will stay in USB 2.0.

USB-IF, Intel did not disclose more technical details. According to the initially published technical diagram, Intel provided four USB 3.0 interfaces through an xHCI controller and shared bus channels with the four USB 2.0 interfaces of the EHCI controller, but there are also rumors that Intel actually used two controllers. , And with the help of internal hubs or splitters into four USB 3.0, but Intel naturally denied this.

There are also arguments that Intel encountered some performance problems about five months ago, and did not fully comply with the USB 3.0 specification, but since USB-IF has already been certified, this argument is naturally untenable.
