The "Report" not only disclosed the lighting industry from the world to Foshan. The status quo of patent development also provides reference for patent application retrieval for lighting companies in Foshan.
“Paying attention to patent applications has greatly helped enterprises to go abroad.†Li Juzhen, deputy director of the Foshan Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, said at the press conference that many domestic traditional industries have encountered anti-dumping initiated by foreign countries. From the perspective of the whole province, the active areas of lighting in Guangdong Province include Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou and Foshan. The "Report" is ranked according to the number of patents in the lighting industry in major prefecture-level cities in Guangdong Province. The ranking shows that from the perspective of patent types, the total number of patents for lighting fixtures in Shenzhen is nearly 30,000. The "Report" also pointed out that "most of Guangdong's patents are concentrated in Shenzhen, and Shenzhen has an unparalleled advantage in the lighting industry." In terms of quantity, Foshan ranks fifth in the province.

But the following year, with the foreign brands entering the Chinese market, the Foshan enterprises changed their development model. The data shows that since 2004, the number of patent applications for Foshan lighting has begun to rise. In the four years to 2008, the average annual growth rate of lighting applications in Foshan reached 130%.
In this period of rapid growth, a number of “patent big households†have emerged in the Foshan lighting industry.
According to the "Report", Foshan Guoxing Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. ranked first in Foshan's lighting fixtures list with 168 pieces of lighting patents. The cross-border home appliance giant, Midea Group Co., Ltd. currently has 84 lighting patents, which is also among the “big patents†list of Foshan Lighting.
However, from the specific types of patents, Foshan's lighting fixture patents are mainly utility model patents, with a total of 2,647, accounting for 72.9% of all lighting fixture patents. There are 809 patent applications for inventions, accounting for 22.3% of all lighting fixture patents.
It is worth noting that there are only 174 patents for invention and invention, accounting for less than 5% of all lighting fixtures. The "Report" believes that from this set of data, it can be seen that the proportion of patent licenses in Foshan City is low, the patent quality level is not high, and the technological innovation is insufficient.
