SAN DIEGO, March 29, 2017 - Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced the appointment of James H. Thompson, Executive Vice President of Engineering, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Matt Grob, executive vice president and chief technology officer of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., will be transferred to Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., executive vice president of technology, and will continue to report to CEO Steve Morenkov.
In addition to leading the QCT engineering department, Thompson is the Chief Technology Officer and will be responsible for coordinating the company's technology and product roadmaps across all business areas. He will also be responsible for corporate R&D and engineering related operations, ensuring that all R&D projects of the company are coordinated to drive the development of next-generation wireless technologies.

Thompson has been a member of the Qualcomm Executive Committee since 2012 and has been leading the QCT engineering team since 2004 to develop and execute our industry-leading product roadmap. Thompson has held several key engineering and technology leadership positions, supporting the company's leadership in WCDMA, LTE, Wi-Fi, imaging, video, graphics, audio and DSP technologies.
Thompson holds a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, and a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
