Flash is a step closer. Google announced yesterday that it will no longer accept Flash display ads after July, and all ads must be 100% HTML5 formatted.
Google has promoted the policy of restricting the contract in two years. At the beginning of last year, the company promoted the automatic conversion of Flash ad format to HTML5. In the middle of the year, the Chrome browser was preset to pause Flash ads that were not in the center of the page. Google said that in order to continue to improve the online experience of mobile users, the two advertising channels of its Display Network and DoubleClick Digital Marketing will promote the 100% HTML5 policy.
Under the new policy, starting June 30, 2016, AdWords and DoubleClick Digital Marketing will no longer accept new Flash format display ads. As of January 2, 2017, such ads cannot be executed on Display Network and DoubleClick Digital Marketing.
Google urges customers to update their display ads to HTML 5 format before the deadline, and Google also provides an update method. However, the video ad has not been affected at this time.
Problems such as multiple security vulnerabilities and poor performance have made Flash infamous, from Chrome, Firefox and Safari to Youtube and Facebook, and the service of giving up Flash is not known. However, the security issue does not seem to stop; Adobe repaired 22 Flash Player vulnerabilities yesterday, and Microsoft also patched it in the latest security bulletin.
