According to iSuppli, a market research firm owned by IHS, Lenovo surpassed Dell in the third quarter to become the world’s second-largest personal computer brand and launched a challenge for Hewlett-Packard, which is in the top spot.
The company said that Lenovo Group's global PC shipments in the third quarter was 12.5 million units, an increase of 15% from the second quarter, an increase of 5.5% over the same period in the personal computer industry. Lenovo Group, which currently holds a market share of 13.9%, posted a 25% increase in shipments in the third quarter from a year earlier.
IHS said that Lenovo’s performance in the third quarter was the biggest challenge Hewlett-Packard had faced since the second quarter of 2008.
