At Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington, company CEO Satya Narad told me that Microsoft will develop more smart apps and services in the future. Every morning, Narad wears a HoloLens helmet, and he can view the virtual interactive calendar on the wall of his home. The system is smart, productive, and represents the future: Narad is already the leader of Microsoft, and HoloLens has pinned all his hopes.
Narad claims that in the future, no matter where we work, Microsoft can occupy a place. Microsoft believes that "chat interface" will replace APP and become the main way to use the Internet: we will use new methods to find information, shopping, and access services. With the "Cognitive API" (which Microsoft provides), the app will become smarter and recognize facial expressions, emotions, photos and other information in the video.
Microsoft believes that it has the best "brains" that, based on the machine learning and natural language processing results that have been achieved over the past 20 years, can create an AI-driven future.
Obviously, Microsoft is proud of its AI work, and it is eager to convey a feeling to outsiders: this time Microsoft will be the winner. In June, Microsoft invited me to the office park to interview Narad's deputy, who developed AI products and implanted AI into all aspects of the business. In the following two days, Microsoft showed me a lot of applications, proving that the company has made progress in natural language processing and machine learning.
In developing chat bots, Microsoft may have more success than any other US company. It's just that we may not realize this because Microsoft's success began in China.
In January 2016, Microsoft AI products appeared on Oriental TV, which appeared as a weather forecaster "Xiaoice".
Why is Microsoft so optimistic about chat bots? To know the answer, Xiao Bing is part of it. Derrick Connell, Bing's head of search engineering, said: "We don't dare to say that we have developed a killer robot, but we have indeed developed a robot that can work in a whole new way and complete many conversations. â€
In Cornell's view, Xiao Bing's goal is to point to the next generation of search. When we search, the traditional search engine returns a page with 10 blue hyperlink results; if the session robot is perfect enough, it will only give the correct answer.
Of course, success in China does not mean success in the United States. After two years of Xiao Bing's launch, Microsoft has not developed an English version, and it will not appear in the short term. Microsoft executives said that Xiao Bing's back-end architecture is a big opportunity for the company.
Become an ecosystem
"Now is a new era - you don't have to be an expert in speech and language understanding," Cornell said. "Just use our tools. You can use our tools to develop robots, wherever you go, maybe It's Slack, maybe Facebook Messenger. Of course, we want the app to be available on Skype or Windows."
Developers worry that major companies will fight around robot standards, this time Microsoft is uncharacteristically. In June, Microsoft held a meeting in San Francisco calling on robot developers to work together. Lili Cheng, a senior engineer at Microsoft, is the organizer of the conference (called Botness). She said: "We are very interested in collaboration and we want to be part of the ecosystem. If we find any problems and challenges, Everyone can work together."
It is not only Microsoft that wants to establish a dominant platform for the next generation of computing. Almost every major technology company has an AI department, and many startup companies also have some companies that have achieved remarkable results. It is almost impossible to compare the AI of major companies. What companies are developing (such as Google, Facebook, Amazon) have not yet announced.
Benedict Evans, a futurist at VC company Andreessen Horowitz, recently said in a blog post that the future of AI is still unclear. He wrote: "The field of AI is developing very fast. It is difficult to tell where the strongest leaders will appear, and what things will become commodities. What is the biggest difference? Yes, in terms of AI technology, most of them Computer science results have been published and are open source, but these products are not very important, and these technologies may not be commodities."
APP is not the correct mode
Qi Lu tried to build a competitive advantage for Microsoft. Narad’s executive team has dozens of people, and Lu Qi is one of them. He is in charge of the Microsoft Application and Services Group. Lu Qi received a doctorate in computer science and has 20 patents. I have had exchanges with Lu Qi's colleagues. They respect Lu Qi. Soon I knew the reason. Lu Qi was extremely clever. When he spoke, he patted his feet as if he was not talking fast. When they met, Lu Qi wore sandals and socks, big pocket shorts, and three words on the T-shirt: "Make epic shit. (meaning to create great things)"
There were some shortcomings in the first wave of mobile Internet waves, and Lu Qi was the first to solve these problems. Lu Qi said that mobile device network traffic never exceeded desktop traffic because users were frustrated with the experience. "We all know that the performance of web pages on mobile phones is not very good." Lu Qi said. In addition to a few major categories, users are reluctant to download other apps. Seattle citizens may be forced to download an app to view the fare of the ferry. In fact, they only use it a few times a year. This model is not good. Lu Qi said: "Our industry has not yet found an experience platform that truly unlocks the value of mobile and cloud. APP is not the right model."
When the APP emerged, it was used to replace the HTML page. At the time, APP was the best way. We can't yell at the phone to bring up Internet content, developers have to develop sophisticated hidden pipes, allowing users to interact through graphical buttons. Still, the button is still the most efficient way to accomplish many tasks.
Thanks to advances in natural language processing technology, we can now yell at mobile phones and scream Internet content to mobile phones. Lu Qi believes that the next generation of “experience platform†will start from this, including dialogue. This kind of experience is more in line with people's behavior. As long as you use it correctly, you can return to the button at any time. Lu Qi said: "The full use of language will become the benchmark, and graphical interaction can enhance the experience in a more thoughtful and meaningful way."
Different from traditional FR-4 (plastic), ceramic materials have good high-frequency performance and electrical properties, and have properties that organic substrates do not have, such as high thermal conductivity, excellent chemical stability and thermal stability. Ideal packaging material for large scale integrated circuits and power electronic modules.
