Intersil today announced the ISL59118 video filter, a 9MHz, dual-channel, low-pass filter that removes the glitch generated by video DACs. Compared to the previous generation, this device uses almost 50% of the bias current, making it the industry's lowest power dual-channel video filter and clamp.Video DACs are used in a wide range of applications, from set-top boxes to portable products, such as MP3 players and mobile phones that can play video.
The ISL59118 video filter has a bias current of only 4.5mA, which is more than 10 times lower than competing products. The video filter is packaged in an ultra-small, tiny TQFN package that shuts down when it is not in operation, consuming only 0.5 mA. The ISL59118 video filter combines industry-leading power savings, small size and high cost efficiency, making it the first choice for battery-powered portable video applications.
The ISL59118 video filter is ideal for systems with dual composite video signal inputs or outputs. It can be used as an anti-aliasing filter at the input before the ADC to remove high frequency, non-image noise from the signal before digitizing the signal.
As an output reconstruction filter, the ISL59118 video filter can also be placed after the DAC, which smoothes the resulting digital output waveform and removes glitch and noise. Usually the DAC does not provide enough gain and output current to drive the video signal to the cable or into the dual-terminal video load - and the ISL59118 helps solve this problem.
The ISL59118 video filter can also be used in newer portable video applications where the video input is used for recording and the video output is used to drive the cable to an external display.
