ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN) launched a highly integrated protection NCV840x series of low-end self-protected MOSFETs. This series of devices has passed the AEC-Q101 standard certification, which is very suitable for switching applications in strict automotive and industrial working environments.

NCV8401, NCV8402, NCV8402D (dual die), NCV8403 and NCV8404 are designed to provide rugged and reliable operation. These devices all have rich self-protection features, including temperature and current limit, electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, and Integrated drain-to-gate clamping for OVP.

Features and advantages

The NCV840x driver can be used to switch a variety of resistive, inductive and capacitive loads, allowing designers to replace electromechanical relays or discrete circuits with another option that is more compact, stronger and has a longer working life. All these devices provide logic level inputs.

The rated drain-to-source voltage (VDSS) of NCV8401, NCV8402D, and NCV8403 is 42 volts (V), and the maximum drain current (ID) is 33 amperes (A), 2 A, and 15 A, respectively. The NCV8405 has a VDSS of 40 V and a maximum rated ID of 6 A. The gate-to-source voltage (VGS) of all these devices is ± 14 V.

All devices in this new series offer low on-resistance (RDS (ON)) values ​​to help achieve higher energy efficiency system designs. The RDS (ON) values ​​of NCV8401, NCV8402D, NCV8403 and NCV8405 at 10 V are 23 milliohms (mΩ), 165 mΩ, 53 mΩ and 90 mΩ, respectively.

These devices offer a wide operating temperature range of −40 ° C to 150 ° C and a high level of static suppression (4,000 V at 25 ° C junction temperature). When VGS is 5 V and 10 V, the shutdown temperature limit is set at 175⁰C and 165⁰C, respectively.
