According to reports, IHS Markit predicts that OLED TV sales this year will reach 2.54 million units, more than double that of last year. At the same time, sales of QLED TVs this year are estimated to be 1.96 million units, which means that OLED purchases are 580,000 units more than QLED.

According to data from LG Display, global sales of OLED TV panels reached 1.3 million in the first half of 2018, more than double the 600,000 in the first half of 2017.

LG Display believes that the sales of OLED TV panels in 2018 will reach 2.9 million units. After the 8.5-generation plant in Guangzhou is put into production in the second half of 2019, LG expects its production capacity to double again, from the current 70,000 substrates per month (subdivided into smaller panels) to 130,000 per month. .

In addition, LG Display has announced that it will use "the 10.5-generation production line under construction in Paju City to also manufacture OLED panels." Once completed, the factory will be more capable of producing large-size OLED TV panels.

Many international TV manufacturers have joined the OLED camp, and LG Electronics expects OLED to grow rapidly. LG Electronics is a big brother in the OLED TV market. In the first half of this year, LG Display’s shipments of large-size OLED panels reached 1.3 million, which is more than twice the growth rate compared to 600,000 in the same period last year.

LGD said that shipments of large-size OLED panels increased significantly in the first half of 2018. Sales of 55-inch, 65-inch and 77-inch products maintained a constant growth. The OLED division is expected to turn profitable for the first time in the second half of this year.

Industry insiders believe that the surge in LGD's large-size OLED panel shipments is mainly due to the growth of the global OLED camp and the hot sales of OLED TVs in the terminal market.

At the same time, Samsung, TCL and Hisense have also formed an alliance to promote "QLED" TVs to compete with OLED TVs. Current QLED TVs do not use new display technology, but LCD TVs are covered with a layer of quantum dot film.

Samsung Electronics does not produce OLEDs and specializes in QLED. BusinessKorea reported in August that in terms of high-end TV, Samsung lost the top spot last year and is now back to glory. In the second quarter of this year, Samsung accounted for 43.8% of high-end TVs over US$2,500, ranking first; for large screens over 75 inches, Samsung accounted for 57.9% of the market, and Sony and LG difference.
