Exar introduces an 8-channel constant current LED driver chip

Exar recently released an 8-channel constant current LED driver chip - XRP7618. The chip supports LED channel input voltage up to 30V, which is very suitable for driving 8 LED strings, each current up to 100mA. At the same time, the XRP7618 supports multi-chip cascading to drive more LED channels. This makes the XRP7618 suitable for matrix LED drive solutions for medium to large backlight panels. Each channel can be used in parallel to increase the current per channel. At the same time, EXAR's Smart TalkTM technology reduces overall system power consumption and improves heat dissipation.

With a drive capability of 100mA per channel and an input voltage of up to 30V, the XRP7618 can control multiple strings of LEDs with current matching within ±1.5%. Multiple channels can be combined to increase channel drive capability up to 800mA. The channel current is set by an external resistor and can be dimmed by analog or PWM with up to 25KHz. Using Exar's Smart TalkTM technology, the XRP7618 dynamically reports the minimum LED input voltage required to maintain current regulation mode, optimizing overall system efficiency. Low voltage blocking, LED open circuit, and over temperature protection ensure system safety in abnormal operating environments.

The XRP7618 is available now in volume quantities and is RoHS compliant, "green" halogen free, and is available in a 20-pin TSSOP package.
