How to log in to Windows XP system when you forget your password

If you forget the password or the password expires, you cannot log in to the computer without resetting the password. This article contains several step-by-step methods that you can use to try to reset your password to enable you to log on to your computer again. However, these steps will only work if you or someone else knows the password of another user account on this computer, or if you previously created a password reset disk for this computer. You can use the following methods to try to log on to the computer. These instructions guide you through each step and help verify that the issue is resolved.
Method 1: Use the password reset disk loadTOCNode (2, 'whattotry'); Windows XP Home EdiTIon or Windows XP Professional loadTOCNode (3, 'whattotry'); Restart the computer. In the Windows XP login screen, click the user name you want to use, and then press Enter.

Note: You will receive the following error message:
Did you forget your password? You can click the “?” Button to see your password hint. Or you can use your password reset disk. Please type your password again. Be sure to use the correct uppercase and lowercase letters.
Click "Reset Disk with Password". In the Password Reset Wizard dialog box, click Next. Insert the password reset disk into the CD drive, and then click Next. Method 2: Log in as an administrator and reset the password loadTOCNode (2, 'whattotry'); Windows XP Home EdiTIon or Windows XP Professional loadTOCNode (3, 'whattotry'); Log in as an administrator. Restart the computer. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete twice, and then type the name of the administrator user account. In the Password box, type the administrator password, and then click OK.
