High power white LED in a planar package

Introduction: Citizen Electronics has developed a high-power white light-emitting diode (LED) in a planar package, and a special exhibition "LED Next" held at the Tokyo International Convention and Exhibition Center on March 4-7, 2008. On stage, it was exhibited. The company has previously developed and marketed high-power white LEDs for lighting products. The original product uses a light-emitting part in a slim package. This time, in order to be more easily equipped with a spherical illumination product, a planar package with a circular or nearly square light-emitting portion is used.
The company's white LEDs use blue LED chips and yellow phosphor materials. The blue LED chip and the phosphor used in this white LED "are the same as the original product, but the structure in which the spherical illumination lens is easy to collect light" (narrator).
The newly developed products include 3 series. For standard size spherical lighting products: 10W class "CL-L230 series", 16W class "CL-L220 series". In addition, there are three series of "CL-L190 Series" for smaller spherical lighting products. In terms of external dimensions, the CL-L230 series is 23mm × 17.5mm × 1.4mm, the CL-L220 series is 28mm × 17.5mm × 1.4mm, and the CL-L190 series is 20mm × 13mm × 4mm.
Each series is available in a variety of products with different color temperatures. The CL-L230 series and CL-L220 series are available in 5000K and 2900K. The CL-L190 series is available in 5 products ranging from 2900K to 6300K. For example, in the 5000K product of the CL-L230 series, the luminous efficiency is 69lm/W when the input power is 10.6W, and the luminous flux is 700lm; the 5000K product of the CL-L220 series has a luminous efficiency of 69lm/W when the input power is 16.9W, and the luminous flux is 1150lm; 5000K products of CL-L190 series, when inputting 5.6W power, the luminous efficiency is 72lm/W, and the luminous flux is 408lm.
The number of blue LED chips is 45 for the CL-L230 series, 72 for the CL-L220 series, and 24 for the CL-L190 series. The CL-L230 series is likely to be in volume production. The CL-L190 series and CL-L220 series will be available in May 2008 and will be mass-produced before the end of 2008.
