According to reports, Amazon launched a tool called Sumerian, its function is to quickly create AR / VR and 3D content, it is reported that Sumerian will be free to open, developers only pay for storage space.
Amazon has released a new development tool at AWS re:Invent, which they hope will make it easier for users to develop web-based applications for VR/AR and traditional displays. The tool, called Sumerian, is capable of publishing 3D content to any browser that supports WebGL or WebVR graphics rendering, including Daydream, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and iOS mobile devices.
Amazon said that the Sumerian editor allows developers to build "realistic virtual environments, populate them with 3D objects and animated characters, and write scripts to determine how they will interact with each other and with the users of the application."
Amazon's tools are completely web-based, just like the VR/AR applications they can generate, which means users don't have to install additional software. WebVR has been integrated into major browsers including Chrome for Android, Oculus Carmel, Samsung Internet, Opera Developer Edition and Firefox Nightly.
Sumerian does not need any coding skills. The tool provides a drag-and-drop interface and a visual scripting tool that helps users build the logic that controls the objects in the scene and how the characters will act and respond to actions.
Amazon provides a pre-created scene and object library, while allowing users to create their own objects, or to download and import objects (such as Sketchfab or Turbosquid) from the 3D object library. Of course, Amazon's AWS cloud will host the Sumerian scene.
In order to attract developers, Amazon eliminates all up-front costs, but developers will have to pay a fee for the amount of storage of 3D assets and the traffic generated by accessing the virtual scenes they create.
Interestingly, Amazon also integrates Sumerian with Amazon Lex and Amazon Polly, which will provide Sumenian with automatic speech recognition, natural language understanding and text-to-speech, which means that VR characters can respond to queries and Achieve natural interaction to a certain extent.
Marco ArgenTI, vice president of AWS Technology, said: “From educating and training employees to creating new consumer experiences, customers from all walks of life have seen the broad potential of VR and AR technologies. However, the creation of VR or AR applications The upfront investment in the required expertise and tools is frustrating for customers. With Amazon Sumerian, any developer can now create a realistic interactive VR or AR application in hours."
