EtherCAT P - the ideal bus for sensors, actuators and measurement technology components

With the introduction of EtherCAT P, Beckhoff has further refined its EtherCAT technology, which has become a global standard. EtherCAT P combines ultra-high-speed EtherCAT communication with 24 V for system and peripherals – with an optional power supply. This means that Single Cable Automation (OCA) can now also be implemented at the field level, allowing machines or other devices to plug and play from 24 V sensors to 600 V drives without the need for a control cabinet.

The EtherCAT P combines the 24 V DC power supply for the EtherCAT P slave and the connected sensors and actuators in a 4-core standard Ethernet cable. US (system and sensor power) and Up (actuator P (actuator peripheral voltage) are electrically isolated from each other and can supply up to 3 A of current to the connected components.

With EtherCAT P, the US and UP currents are fed directly into the wires of the 100 Mbit/s cable, enabling a very economical and compact connection. This makes the EtherCAT P bus ideal for sensor, actuator and measurement technology components, with the advantage of being able to connect small I/O stations to terminal boxes and to connect distributed I/O components. Beckhoff developed a dedicated M8 connector for EtherCAT P with a mechanical code that prevents it from being confused with the connector of a standard EtherCAT slave.

To connect components and higher voltages and/or currents, you need a complete EtherCAT P connector family that covers all your application needs, up to 400 V AC or 600 V DC up to 64 A drives. As a result, the new connector makes it easy to connect all field layer components. For I/O applications, interfaces with IP 20 and IP 67 protection are available. The system is also ideal for AC and DC motors, actuators, valve terminals and sensors such as proximity switches, encoders or rotary encoders. For vision applications, you can connect a camera, barcode scanner, and 3D scanner.

EtherCAT P simplifies system cabling

The basic idea of EtherCAT P is to simplify system cabling by reducing the number of connectors for automation components and equipment. A single cable solution that is well-suited for individual power needs and highly scalable can be placed throughout the field level. For 24 V applications, a standard Ethernet cable can be used. For higher voltages and currents, EtherCAT P can be integrated into the respective power cable. Beckhoff offers a wide range of cables and connectors for these applications.

This eliminates the need for a separate power cable, which significantly reduces material and assembly costs and reduces the possibility of errors during installation. At the same time, it also minimizes the space requirements in the cable lines, control cabinets, and the machine itself. Other advantages include smaller, clearer cable runs and smaller sensors and actuators. This gives machine builders more choices in design while reducing hardware and system costs through a convenient, tool-assisted system layout.

Direct power to the device and flexible topology

The topology of EtherCAT P is exactly the same as the EtherCAT topology that engineers are familiar with, and it is equally flexible in choice. Line, tree and star topologies can be freely combined to achieve the most cost-effective system layout. Unlike traditional Power over Ethernet (PoE), EtherCAT-P users can also cascade through a single feed device. The cascade of EtherCAT P devices is limited only by voltage drop, but this can be compensated by adding feed points.

Combo GPS Antenna

Currently, most GPS antennas are right-handed polarized ceramic media consisting of ceramic antennas, low-noise signal modules, cables, and connectors. Ceramic antenna, also known as passive antenna, dielectric antenna and patch, is the core technology of GPS Antenna. The reception ability of GPS antenna depends largely on its ceramic components. Low noise signal module, also known as LNA, is the part that amplifies and filters the signal. The selection of components is also very important, otherwise it will increase the reflection loss of GPS signal, resulting in excessive noise. Cable selection should also be based on reducing reflection to ensure impedance matching
